As SAT and AP exams approaches, many students feel the pressure to study more. While cramming at the last minute seems better, staying consistent and practicing makes a huge difference.
One of the most popular free resources is Khan Academy, which offers SAT practice and lesson reviews for many AP subjects. Many students also turn to YouTube for help. Heimler is one who breaks down AP history topics in a clear and fast-paced way. There are other channels like The Organic Chemistry Tutor that are useful for math and science explanations. One of our seniors, Misael, mentions how, “waking up early and eating before the test helps you to fully wake your body up.” Some teachers have mentioned that the best tips to be successful on every exam is going over past homework assignments and notes to better prepare.
When it comes to study habits, instead of having long unfocused sessions, it’s better to study around 25–45 minutes with breaks in between. Practice tests are also helpful, especially for the SAT as they help you with timing yourself and getting an idea of the type of questions that will be on the test. Reviewing mistakes is just as important as getting answers right.
Another tip is focusing on weaker areas first. It’s easy to review what you already know, but you’ll improve by working on what’s more difficult and confusing. Studying with friends can also help, as long as you’re able to stay on task and quiz one other.
Having the right resources and a routine will help you become more confident during the test day.
