
On December 14th, during a Hanukkah Celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney, two gunmen opened fire on the crowd, killing 15 people and injuring dozens more. Authorities have declared this incident a Terror attack with antisemitic motives.
The shooters were identified to be father and son; the father was shot and killed by police while the son is in critical condition with multiple counts of murder,attempted murder and terrorism offenses.
Bystander Ahmed al Ahmed has been widely praised around the world after disarming one of the attackers, this resulted in many lives being saved, he has since received mass support and donations towards his recovery.
A vigil has been held in Australia at the beach in tribute to those who tragically lost their lives. Blood donations have significantly been donated as blood transfusions is in high demand.
The government has announced plans to reduce gun purchases and stricter firearm regulations in response to this tragedy.
There is still an investigation behind why this attack took place and the motive to the attack. Communities have called on continuing to celebrate Hanukkah with no fear of being killed over your Jewish belief.
