Every Wednesday and Thursday, the 12th floor of Leadership and Public Service HS buzzes with good vibes, thanks to our Music Club. Led by the passionate Mr. Bogolub, students take turns sharing songs, laughing, spending quality time, and connecting in a space where everyone feels free to vibe.
In the beginning of this school year Sophomore Saam and Sophomore Eliannah went to Mr Bogolub with the idea to start a club. Mr Bogoloub is very passionate about Music and has encouraged the passion for music to his students and so they decided to start a club about their shared passion for music. Since then, the Music Club has become a welcoming after-school space where students can relax, hang out with friends, and bond with one of their favorite teachers. More than just a club, it plays a big role in building a community that offers a safe and comfortable environment where students can be themselves while connecting through the love of music.

The positive energy of the Music Club is something I instantly fell in love with when I first joined the Club. During their interviews the students described the place as filled with Good Vibes where everyone feels comfortable being themselves. And this is exactly what the founder, Mr Bogoloub wanted this club to be like. “I wanted to create a place where it’s not academic. Because I feel like you guys have to do so much work all the time. Where’s the chance for you to have a break and do stuff like this”–Mr Bodoulub. He doesn’t even find it tiring to go through a whole school day and then being in the music club because of his love for music and his students. He also mentioned the reason he decided to start the club this year is because he really enjoys being in the school and teaching more than last year which then gives him the energy to stay longer in the school for the Music Club. “Last year, to the end of the day, it was kind of tough. This year, it’s really great because I feel like I’ve actually taught something”. Mr Bogoloub also shared that the Yondr pouch system has made teaching more enjoyable for him, saying,, “the fact that you guys don’t have phones anymore, it’s such a pleasure to teach”. He claims that the Yonder pouch system has contributed to starting the club. It’s kind of ironic how most of the students really don’t like the yonder pouch system but it contributed to building a community which the same students love and feel comfortable in. When asked what he hopes to get out of the Music Club, Mr. Bogoloub said he simply wants to share his love of music with students, describing music as a communal experience similar to food. He explained that music brings people together and allows them to bond while discussing difficult topics such as heartbreak, politics, or personal struggles. This goal highlights how much he values connection and it shows how the Music Club is not just about music, but about creating a supportive and meaningful space for students.

Similar to Mr Bogoloub, co-founder Saam also had similar motives for starting the music club. “I wanted everybody to be able to connect together with, um, one passion for something that isn’t gonna endanger everybody and to have a safe meeting spot. For everybody who didn’t really want to go home straight after school”- Sam. And it is safe to say that their goals have been achieved. On my first day at the music club the first thing I saw after entering Mr Bogoloub’s room was him dancing with the music and all of the students laughing. Mr Bogoulob was also joking around with the students. All around it was all good vibes, no one was uncomfortable or awkward.I remember I was a bit awkward on my first day at the club and then the vice president of the club Elinnah came up to me and asked me to put on a song of my choice which made me break out from my awkwardness. It was nice to see how everyone was able to pick a song to play no matter what genre of music it was. Everyone was having a good time by talking with each other, sharing the ups and downs of their school day or just sitting and enjoying the music. Saam said, “The best part of being in this club is being able to see everybody get together with their friends and, you know, laugh with inside jokes and just have a good moment of interaction in an area that’s safe”. Another member of the club Aiden said, “‘I really like music and it’s also fun to find out what other people listen to”. The students also shared how joining the music club has developed their music taste and made it more versatile. They said that they have started liking songs of Lincoln Park. David Bowie, Green Day, a lot of bands like that, which they thought would be unlikely if they hadn’t joined the club. “It exposed me to other music types and put me onto songs that I would have never listened to if it wasn’t for the people in that club, ” said a student from the club.
Overall, the Music Club is more than just a place to share songs. It’s a place built on connection, comfort and creativity. Thanks to the passion of Mr. Bogolub and the vision of student leaders like Saam and Eliannah, the club has become a welcoming community. For students who are looking for a place to go after school which is filled with good vibes and great music, Our Music Club is definitely the place for you.
