Many students are reported to be consuming fast food nearly daily for lunch in our school. This can pose as dangerous as fast food could have many health risks and can affect them in the long term.
In the United States, obesity accounts for 2 in 5 adults, or 42.4%. This is considered a serious issue because fast food can increase risk of diabetes, heart disease, and can lead to constipation. Fast food often contains highly processed carbohydrates which could increase your risk of diabetes. Likewise, fast food also contains a high salt content and increases the levels of sodium in your body, which raises your blood pressure. High blood pressure increases your risk of heart attack, heart disease, kidney disease, heart failure and stroke.

“Yeah, it is quick and easy, especially since it does not take too long during lunch. It is pretty cheap compared to other places,” mentioned Ulises, a sophomore student at Leadership. Other students when asked say they personally grab fast food due to the convenience of it and how relatively cheaper it is than other alternatives that are healthier.
To combat the alarming number of students who consume fast food on a daily basis, healthier alternatives should be presented to everyone to prevent health problems as well as inform them of the potential problems they could face. As suggested by Mr. Fonseca, bringing your own food is a better choice than buying fast food. That way you could eat your own food that has better nutritional value and less risks.
